The employees of Polar Tankers along with our contractors and customers share a common focus: that Safety and Environmental Stewardship are more than just words.
They are the corner stones of how we conduct our work, both on our vessels and in our offices. Our ultimate goal is to achieve zero safety and environmental incidents.
Our employees not only benefit from being able to conduct their work in a safe and environmentally cognizant workplace, our commitment to these ideals also provides our stakeholders with a visible indicator of our outstanding performance.
One of the primary tools Polar utilizes in achieving Safety and Environmental excellence, is the Safety, Quality, Environmental Management System or SQEMS. This integrated management system describes the pertinent safety, quality and environmental protection programs in use by Polar. The SQEMS is designed to fulfill the requirements of: ISO 9001:2008, International Safety Management (ISM) Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), ISO14001:2004, OHSAS 18001:2007, as well as the appropriate flag state requirements and legislation.
In support of these efforts, Polar maintains a core Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) organization that provides guidance and consultation to the fleet. The organization consists of an HSE Manager, HSE Director, three HSE Advisors, an Emergency Response Director and an Emergency Response Coordinator.
Polar Tankers is also proud to have received the prestigious ECOPRO award from the State of Washington, helping to demonstrate our commitment to the pursuit of environmental excellence.
